Mehmet II, also known as Suleyman the Magnificent and the Conqueror, was one of the most powerful rulers in Ottoman history. He laid the foundation of the Ottoman Empire with his victories over several powerful enemies and established a stable rule over a vast territory which stretched from Europe to Asia Minor and from Africa to the Middle East.

Mehmet’s conquests also enabled him to establish an empire that stretched from Hungary in the west to Mecca in the east.

In 1448, Mehmet conquered Constantinople (present day Istanbul). This was not only a great victory for him but also for Islam because it gave them control over another Christian city. It took about four years for him to capture this city since he had no fleet so he had to rely on land forces alone; however, after taking over Constantinople he built up an army consisting mostly out Muslims from Anatolia who were loyal followers of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings as well as some Christians who were willing participants in this campaign against Christians who refused conversion back into Islam after being defeated during previous battles between Muslims versus Christians throughout history (see infographic below).

The Ottoman Empire was the world’s largest state in its time, with territories extending from Europe to Asia Minor and from Africa to the Middle East. It was founded by Osman I (1281-1326) who conquered Constantinople in 1453 CE. His son Orhan Gazi (1324-1362) expanded Ottoman territory further north into Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia as well as southwards along the Mediterranean coast towards Egypt and Damascus.

Mehmet II (1432-1481 CE) succeeded his father after being held hostage for 10 years by Timur Lengi who had seized power over Persia during his absence on campaign. He brought Persia under Ottoman control after defeating Shah Rukh founder of Safavid dynasty that ruled Iran at that time.; he also took control over what is today Albania – Kosovo; Croatia – Bosnia; Herzegovina – Serbia etc…

Conclusion

The Ottoman Empire was a great empire. It was founded by Mehmet, called the Conqueror, who conquered many powerful enemies and established a stable rule over a vast territory which stretched from Europe to Asia Minor and from Africa to the Middle East.
